This 7 step process is the perfect way to kill germs and provide dishes with a shiny finish.

Our friends at Dominant have created a handy chart to help follow this 7 step dishwashing process. Download it, print it and keep it in your kitchen station.

Preparation

Preparation is key! First up, check that all of the scrap trays are clean. Then fill the machine with water and check that the detergent feeder is turned on. Run an empty wash cycle to be certain.

Scrape

Prevent clogging up your dishwasher with solid food residue by taking the time to scrape your dishes prior to washing. We suggest using the Vikan dish brush for scraping away solid food residue with the small scraper at the tip of the brush. It has angled bristles so it can easily reach into corners and a raised angle for effective cleaning with an easy to hold grip.

Soak

If you cannot scrape off a stain or residue, it will be best to soak the dish or tray for a while. We suggest using Dominish in three easy steps. Using a 40g/10L hot water ratio, soak the items for an hour and then rinse with fresh water. Dominish is a colour-safe oxygen bleach that contains a blend of enzymes designed for removal of protein, starch and mannan gums. It is highly concentrated for maximum economy.

Stacking the rack

Stack the rack according to size, with plates leaning backwards. Place bowls and cups in an inverted manner. And place cutlery upright. Be sure not to overload the rack as this prevents a thorough clean. If there are too many dishes, just do two wash cycles.

Wash

The perfect washing temperature is 60°C and the perfect rinse temperature is 82°C. Be sure to check those detergent levels! We suggest trying Virtue+ Auto Dishwashing Detergent which contains chlorine bleach to assist with stain removal and keeps machine scale-free in moderate-hard water areas. Or Virtue+ Rinse Aid provides a spot free finish on glassware, when used as instructed and contains special biodegradable detergents.

Dry

Once the dishes have been through a completed washing cycle, allow them to drain before storing in a dry and clean area, for use later on.

Clean

At the end of the day be sure that the machine is turned off and empty the tank. Clean out the scrap trays and unblock the rinse jets and wash arms. Lastly wipe out the machine.
