Are you practicing good hand hygiene? From Hand Sanitisers to Paper Towel Dispensers, here is everything you need to consider!

Maintaining high standards of hand hygiene requires more than using Hand Sanitiser. It also requires an understanding of hand washing methods and the correct washroom supplies to use!

hand hygiene

Maintaining high standards in hand hygiene is the first step towards staying safe during a global pandemic. This plays a huge part, alongside social distancing and maintaining habits such as coughing into your elbow. This blog post has been created to give you a better understanding of the washroom supplies and hand hygiene methods that you can introduce to keep your employees and customers safe from the spread! You can download a poster to help stop the spread here!

Did you know that you should spend approximately 40 to 60 seconds washing your hands? Starting with wetting hands with water before applying soap all over hand surfaces. Rubbing palm to palm in a circular motion, and then right palm over left dorsum with interlaced fingers and vice versa. Then palm to palm with interlaced fingers, and then back of fingers to opposing palm with fingers interlaced. Next rotate rubbing of left thumb, clasped in right palm and vice versa with right thumb. Don’t forget about those finger tips! Rotational rubbing, backwards and forwards with clasped fingers of right hand in left palm, and vice versa. Rinse hands with water thoroughly and then use paper towel to dry hands.  You can download an instructional poster on hand washing here!

What soap are you providing for your customers and employees? Did you know that refillable soap dispensers are typically poured from a gallon jug of soap, into a dispenser reservoir. One in every four refillable bulk soap dispensers are contaminated with illness-causing bacteria. To avoid cross contamination, use sanitary sealed refills in soap dispensers!

A bulk soap contaminated study showed that micro-biological contamination of soap can result in infections and nosocomial out breaks. The results showed unsafe levels of bacterial contamination in 25% of the samples collected. The average contamination level was over 1,000,000 bacteria per mL of soap. This level of contamination is 1000 times greater than that which is recommended by cosmetic industry standards!

Luckily there is a great alternative to bulk dispensers, that can help reduce cross contamination and keep your customers safe from the risk of micro-biological contamination. The Touch Foam Dispenser includes a clever reserve capacity system that keeps the dispenser working in between refills for up to 100 portions! And a fill level that shows when the soap is running out. Together, the pump mechanism, vacuumBAG and foam generator form an airtight unit. This fulfills the highest hygienic standards. When the button is pressed, the high-quality soap foams directly into the hand, without dripping. You can even set how much high-quality soap is dispensed with each lift offering 0.3 through to 0.9 ml from this non-drip dispenser.

Try the Touch Foam Dispenser (145000) with Septdes Foam 600ml Refills (150310) or Antibacterial Foam Soap 600ml Refills (260300) for best results! Call the Virtue Plus team for more suggestions on the best washroom supplies to use!

paper towel dispensers

How hands are dried is just as important as how they are washed. Did you know that using a jet dryer can expose you to 1000 time more micro-organisms than using paper towel! Research from the University of Westminster has concluded that single-use paper towels are more hygienic than jet dryers. Keith Redway explains “Minimising infection risk by exposing proper hand hygiene, includes understanding what may compromise that. Our research and results over the years have revealed time and again that single-use towels are the safest way to dry ones hands in the washroom.”

It has been estimated that cross-infection contributes to 40% of cases of healthcare associated infections and hand hygiene compliance represents an essential step in minimising such infections.

When considering washroom supplies, avoid jet dryers and offer your guest a safer option for drying their hands. The Touch Towel Dispenser is the first paper towel dispenser in the world with an adjustable time delay for dispensing that allows you to actively control consumption. One sheet of hand towel is sufficient for drying hands. You are able to identify on the fill level indicator, whether space is available for a full paper roll without opening the dispenser. As soon as the paper roll goes below the half-measure mark, the roll is automatically transported to the lower position. This way, there is space at the top again for a full refill. It’s like it’s never empty!

The Touch Towel Dispenser is ideal for Multi-roll Hand Towel 2ply (090000) and Multi-roll Hand Towel 1ply (110000)

hand sanitiser

Hand sanitiser can be applied the same way that soap can be applied during hand washing, although it takes about half the time of hand washing. You can download an instructional poster on hand rubbing here!
